Lure what? Lure coursing is one of the most exciting sports you can participate in with your dogs. Lure coursing is a chase sport done in a large open area in which the dogs chase a pretend bunny lure (in this case, a plastic grocery bag) that is tied to a nylon line and run around a series of pulleys at high speed over a grass or dirt field. The line is run by a machine (either reversible or single direction), and the dog chases the lure. It is one of the easiest and most fun things you can do with your dog and requires no training.
Luratics is San Diego’s (and California’s)
only all-breed lure coursing club. Many dogs get very little
exercise and even fewer ever get to enjoy the thrill of an off-lead
chase where they can run as fast as they want without someone yelling
at them to stop or come back. Lure coursing allows dogs to
do just that. Dogs run individually and there is no right
or wrong way to do it. Almost all dogs will chase the lure
and they need no experience or training to tell them what to do.
Chasing a moving target comes naturally to most dogs so when confronted
with a fluffy, fluttering “bunny” zipping along through
the grass, it is utterly irresistible to them. Add to that
the cheering of the human spectators, the excited barking of the
other dogs, plus they get to catch the “bunny” at the
end, and you have a perfect recipe for FUN!
